5 Maintenance Tips to Keep your Residential Artificial Turf Lasting Long

Artificial turf comes with a lot of perks, one of the main ones being lower maintenance. However, lower maintenance doesn’t mean that there is no maintenance. Whether you have already installed residential artificial turf or are interested in the maintenance of artificial turf, below you’ll find five tips to keep your grass looking great and last a long time. 

 

1. Frequent Rinsing 

 

With proper care, your artificial turf could last for years to come. One of the best and most necessary tips for maintaining your artificial turf is to simply rinse the grass regularly. About once a week spraying down the grass fibers with a hose will help to remove dust and small debris that has collected in the grass. This regular maintenance is simple, yet crucial for keeping your lawn looking great and preventing the build-up of debris and dust.

 

2. Regular Brushing 

Particularly important in high-traffic areas of your lawn, cross brushing will keep your grass looking strong and fresh, not to mention prevent matting. By using a broom or handled brush you can sweep against the natural grain of the grass to groom it into the proper upright position. 

 

3. Pick Up Pet Waste

Artificial turf is pet-friendly, but if you have pets you may need to increase the frequency of your regular lawn maintenance. You can remove all solid pet waste with a doggie bag or pooper scooper and then hose down the areas where the pet urinates weekly. You can also opt to use a turf deodorizer if needed, this may help to prevent lawn odors. 

 

4. Clean Up Spills

Your lawn is where your family enjoys time together. That means that accidents are going to happen. Drinks may get spilled, chewing gum may land on the ground, or ketchup from the family get together may get dropped. The best part about artificial turf is that almost all spills are easily cleaned up with a quick rinse of water.  

For tougher spills or if you need an option for removing bacteria you can use mild soap and warm water or a half-and-half mix of vinegar and water. Even if you find that you have a stain of some kind, avoid putting any abrasive cleaners on your turf as they can be damaging.

 

5. Don’t Abuse Your Lawn

Despite the toughness and durability of your synthetic turf, you should still be cautious so that the turf doesn’t get damaged. Make sure that cigarettes, fireworks, and grills are placed away from your turf to prevent burns. Furniture with sharp or jagged edges can also damage your turf so make sure they are placed safely on a patio.
